Lamari

Aghios Martinos

Situated on the North-West side of Pantokrator, Lamari is a contemporary hillside garden with views to the mountains of Albania and sunset.

Lamari is a contemporary hillside garden with 180 degree views out to sea to the mountains of Albania and the islands of Erikousa & Orthonoi. This 18 year old garden is arranged on descending levels around an old renovated olive press. On one side the outlook is exposed to the NW winter winds where hardy plants and Cyprus separate the studio from the house. On the slopes to the south is a well established organic vegetable garden as well as citrus, pear & pomegranate trees which give way to natural growth and wild flowers where the garden meets the neighbouring olive groves. The house is surrounded by a large grey Kavala-paved terrace with low  walls over which Star Jasmine, Trachelospermum, Rosemary, Campsis and Bougainvillea grow. Amongst other plants, Echium, Lavender, Euphorbia, Perovskia, Angelika Pittosporum and Berberis fill the beds with Phormium interspersed. At the furthest distance above and below the house, the olive groves are mown 2/3 times yearly only to encourage wildflowers.

Distinguishing Features

  • I have tried to keep the planting simple with large architectural plants & a simple palette with only a few splashes of colour.

  • The Sculpture is an important feature of the garden.
