Agios Stefanos - Sinies

Occupying two peninsulas looking across the Corfu Straits towards the Bay of Butrint this estate garden clearly shows the owners love for the sense of place. From the mosaics in the courtyard designed by Nicolas Ghika, to the beautifully maintained olive groves full of wild flowers in the spring and autumn, from the exposing of a whole area of bedrock as a feature close to the house to the famous swimming pool quarried out of the rock, and designed by Javier Barba. The colours in this garden are muted and gentle and nature is allowed to tell its own story with subtle enhancements

“……the point of the ‘garden’ is the place. The light that beguiled so many painters, the glimpses of sea through the olives and cypresses, the ancient boles of trees among rocks, the wildflowers in spring and autumn all proclaim this secret paradise beyond the skill of any gardener.” - Mary Keen, advisor to the estate on landscape design and plant design.
