House on the Hill

Danillia

Garden Description:  This contemporary, xerioscaped, Mediterranean garden designed and created by owners Teresa and Barry Taylor is built on the site of a much older property.

The garden has been constructed using natural materials, local stone and recycled items with planting cascading down the walled terraces from the stone house, which occupies the highest point of the land.

Ancient olive trees are incorporated into the modern, drought aware planting scheme.

Lavender hedging together with gravel pathways provide form and function, whilst perennials are planted in drifts amongst the ornamental grasses.

Succulents and cacti are grown within a large rock garden that repurposes the stone from the original buildings.

There is also a working kitchen garden with raised vegetable beds, an extremely productive composting area, soft fruit beds and a selection of fruit trees.

This is very much a landscape of sustainability where the bywords of reuse, rework and recycle are paramount principles.

Teresa’s delicious home-made cakes and refreshments will be available throughout the day. Donations will be given to Melissa, a Corfu based organisation that supports young adults with learning difficulties.

COMPOSTING WORKSHOP: Time 11.30am - Booking not required.

Composting presentation this year seeks to build on last October’s workshop ‘The advantages of composting in the modern age’, and will take the form of a short presentation followed by a Q & A.

‘The realities of composting, a personal journey’

We talk openly about our own experiences both here in Corfu and in the UK.  Highlighting the benefits, embracing the realities and learning from mistakes.
